Antalya is two cities: the resort strip of Lara and Konyaaltı along the beaches, and the old town of Kaleiçi on the cliff above the Roman harbour. For sightseeing you want Kaleiçi and the coast on either side of it — and the ruins within an hour's drive, which are some of the best in Turkey.
Enter through Hadrian's Gate, the triple marble arch built for the emperor's visit in 130 AD, and you are in the maze of Ottoman houses, courtyards and pensions. The Fluted Minaret of the Yivli Minare mosque is the landmark; the Kesik Minare, a Roman temple turned church turned mosque, and Hıdırlık Tower on the cliff edge are the other two. The harbour below, cut into the rock, is where the excursion boats leave; the clock tower on Kale Kapısı square marks the old town's upper edge.
Karaalioğlu Park runs along the cliff top south of Kaleiçi with the widest view over the gulf and the Bey Mountains. West of the harbour, the Antalya Museum holds the sarcophagi and statues from Perge — worth a visit before you go to the site itself. Konyaaltı beach starts just beyond, with the cable car to Tünektepe at its far end.
The Düden river falls twice: the Upper Düden falls in a park north of the city, where you can walk behind the water, and the Lower Düden falls straight into the sea off the Lara cliffs, best seen from a boat. Kurşunlu waterfall, further out, is a forested picnic spot.
